As a school, we are focusing on the 16 Habits of The Mind. We are familiarizing students, parents, and staff with these sixteen key concepts, as we will be utilizing them while teachers plan and in daily conversations with children in 2020-21. These elements will teach all of us to think, reflect and learn. We challenge you to identify your thinking and see what category your mind is at during that time. In the student choice boards below you will see the sixteen habits in bold.

16 Habits of the Mind (explanation)

Parents/Guardians: As a staff, we realize that a few folks would rather have worksheet type activities for their children. However, at Overall Creek, we are not heavily focused on worksheets or memorization. We are staying true to the vision of Overall Creek Elementary as a STEM school that prepares our children for 10-20 years from now (problem solvers and collaborators), and staying as true to our students as we can at this time. Finally, the activities created for this week (and down the road) are truly designed to help the parents/guardians who are not teachers, who are working, have multiple children at home and just plain old unsettled. Thank you for your understanding.

2020 Summer Reading Lists

Lists are for the students' 2020-21 grade-level.
As always, we want students (and parents) reading each day. If the suggested lists do not meet your child's needs or interest, simply read ANYTHING. However, suggested reading and what the content of the books contain will be referred to during the coming school year.
