Administration

Don Bartch

I love being the principal of Overall Creek Elementary School. I have been in education for twenty-five years. In 2005 I was named the assistant principal at Scales Elementary and was a part of opening that campus as well. Since then, I was named the principal at Scales in June of 2012 and the duties for Overall Creek were handed to me in January of 2014. In May of 2019 I was awarded the Excellence in STEM Leadership Award from the Tennessee STEM Innovation Network and the Tennessee State Department of Education.

I have been blessed with experience at the high school, middle school and elementary levels. I have taught physical education, health, anatomy and physiology, and technology. Additionally, I have coached high school football, middle school football, powerlifting, and my children's soccer teams for ten years. Often coaching two teams in the same season.

I was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota and raised in a Burnsville, Minnesota. However, a significant part of my life was spent in the northern woods of Minnesota. I love the cold and snow. I went to college at Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas where I eventually met my wife of now twenty-five years. We have three amazing children. Julea, my oldest daughter, just graduated from Harding University to be a secondary English or math teacher. Emma is also attending college at Harding University, studying to be a nurse. Finally, our son Tucker will be attending Harding in August of 2021. One of my favorite things to do is to go camping with my family and friends. I prefer the outdoors and the months of October and November are ideal. I also enjoy just spending time with my family.

Please feel free to email or call me if you want to know more about Overall Creek Elementary.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our website and learning more about “Life at the Creek.” I absolutely love being a part of this amazing Otter family. I am originally from Miami, Florida and love the warm weather. I enjoy spending time with my family and visiting Miami often.

I graduated from the University of North Carolina- Wilmington with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and a minor in Psychology. I earned my Master’s Degree in Administration and Supervision from MTSU.

I began my teaching career with the Department of Defense and taught 4th and 5th grade. We were then moved to beautiful Tennessee with the Marine Corps, where I joined the Murfreesboro City Schools family and taught 1st and 4th grades for 7 years before moving into administration for the next 8 years.

Working with and for our children is my passion. I enjoy seeing their wheels spin as they explore and imagine, but nothing is more rewarding than seeing their eyes light up as they discover something new. My role as an administrator allows me to advocate for children and make decisions that are for the children. I love what I do each day and look forward to making a difference in the lives of children and educators.
