Holmes, Katie- School Psychologist

Katie Holmes picture

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself.  My name is Katie Holmes, and I will be your School Psychologist for the 2017-2018 school year!

First, I would like you to get to know me a little.  I got married in 2014 over fall break to my high school sweetheart, Charles.  This made me instantly become a celebrity- Katie Holmes.  We have two dogs, a yellow Labrador and a German Shepherd.  We enjoy traveling and spending time with friends and family.  He likes to cook, and I enjoy baking so it works out well.

Second, let me tell you about my background and experience. I’ve lived in Murfreesboro the majority of my life and attended Middle Tennessee State University where I obtained my bachelor’s degree in Psychology.  I was accepted into MTSU’s graduate studies and received my Master’s and Education Specialist degrees in School Psychology.  I’ve had wonderful opportunities to work with children with special needs at Project HELP and at Camp Will, a therapeutic summer camp for children with disabilities.  In addition, I have worked at the Center for Dyslexia at MTSU where I completed assessments and worked with families.  I completed my internship with Murfreesboro City Schools at Reeves-Rogers, Pre-K settings, and Black Fox Elementary.

Third, I would like to share with you services that I can offer; however, my assistance is certainly not limited to what is mentioned. While my main role is to evaluate children for special education, I can provide a variety of other services.  As the School Psychologist, I am also very involved with RTI helping with data interpretation, intervention selection, progress monitoring, academic and/or behavioral screenings, etc.  I can provide consultative services to both parents and teachers where we will work together to problem-solve.  I will be a member of our behavior team so I can also help with behavior concerns and interventions.  My goal is to provide 1-2 professional development workshops throughout the year. I, along with our school teams, am here to help with any academic, cognitive, social-emotional, developmental, or behavioral concern.  Please let me know if you have any questions about our referral process, forms, and timelines.

Finally, it is important that you know the best way to reach me. I will be at Overall Creek Elementary on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays and at Discovery School on Tuesdays (and as needed). The best way to contact me is to email me at: Katie.Holmes@cityschools.net .

Please consider me part of the school family and let me know how I may be of service. I am so excited to be part of this wonderful district and work with the best school staff!
